What does it mean to be Meek?
"[T]he meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity." - Ps. 37.11
"Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth." - Matt. 5.5
To be meek does not mean to be timid, fearful, quiet and passive. This is a misunderstanding perpetrated by those that are not meek.
Read AW Tozer's definition of a "meek man (or woman)":
"He knows well that the world will never see him as God sees him and he has stopped caring...He cares not at all who is greater than he, for he has long ago decided that the esteem of the world is not worth the effort..." - The Pursuit of God, Chapter 9
A meek person may still have ambition, vision, zeal, passion and goals, but a meek person is not willing to step over or crush others in pursuit of those things.
A meek person is not so hungry for power that they cut moral and ethical corners.
A meek person does not climb the ladder of success, but allows God to promote them in His sovereign timing.
A meek person understands that; "Whatever you gain through self-promotion you will have to sustain through self-promotion" (Bill Johnson). It's that struggle to sustain through self-promotion that causes the un-meek to whither like grass and disappear over time. The un-meek must self-sustain, but the meek are sustained by God.
