Theological Systems and Mystery

Sometimes, when people feel the need to construct a flawlessly coherent theological system, they are faced with gaps in the system. Those gaps are mysterious.

In an effort to minimize mystery and maximize coherency they will attempt to bridge those gaps with concepts that are not found in scripture (or even contradict scripture) but at least fill the gap philosophically.

In order to protect and maintain those philosophical plugs they are forced to distort obvious concepts in scripture that don't line up with the philosophical gap-plugging.

The unwillingness to live in mystery has led to many errors and heresies. There is no command to have an air-tight theological paradigm. There are, however, many commands to trust and believe God.
